stitching for the bazaar

It may be a little quiet from our quarters, but not for lack of stitching....  We got involved with our local church bazaar at the Dutch Reformed Church in Three Anchor Bay / Sea Point, and the needles have been ticking away! Here's a little sneak preview.... Please pop by and say hi! with a cherry on top..

and then my daughter Liv (4) had a go!  read more at Tuesdays with Megan

sewing doodles

Now if only I could bring myself to cough up R300 for a font, I could have a lot of fun!

Hey little bunny...

Found this little guy in issue 4 of simply crochet {download app to purchase copy @ R56,99}.  He was pretty easy to make, except that I struggle to make two of anything (ears) never mind four (legs and arms)! But I eventually got him done in time for Phia's first birthday.  He is super cute and floppy and might need to make another one for my girls.  I used 2 balls of vinnis cotton DK yarn, in a Baby Yellow. I love working with vinni cottons and their array of colors take me to a happy place. I used some scraps of brown I had lying around for the eyes and snout.

And the best bit is that I actually completed the project, even though his head and tummy lay in two separate bowls in two separate rooms for a couple of weeks, threatening to get lost or unravelled, when that second ball of baby yellow that I was sure I had failed to be where I thought it was.  Thank goodness: in a war on wool - clean up and sort out I fould the culprit, and after eventually finding the head again, I could complete project bunny.

I dream of the day that all my yarn is organized and colour coded, bought for an intended project.  And that intended project always gets completed.

Don't forget the charity book store and library...

People have been knitting, embroidering, sewing and crocheting since the beginning of time, and there is a mass of literature out there, and also some incredible trendy recent publications that I often just drool over.

But don't under-estimate your local library or second-hand book store- I always have a quick skwiz at their needlework section, and find some gems and good old basic know-how books, between what can only be described as very scary styles or fashions in needlework past... (More of that to come).  I found this complete knitting style file recently for only R20 at Kafda second hand books in Sea Point.    A fantastic find, as I am always looking to learn how to knit new textures and designs.  May just funk up the file cover a bit..,,

About love, hope and knitting

My love affair with knitting started ten years ago. I knitted through the darkest hours and had something on the needles in a bag close by in the happiest moments of the past ten years. I love how much I love knitting. I love how everything I knit holds the memory of whatever was happening in my life while I was knitting it. I love how the hundreds and thousands of stitches capture the love I have for whomever I am knitting the hat or scarf or blanket for. Like this hat for my baby girl.

What she loves most about knitting is pulling it off her head. I hope one day she'll want to learn to knit. And if she does, I hope she comes to know the quiet places that the act of knitting takes you to. I hope she loves knitting as much as I do.
